CHICAGO LOOP: PRISON RELEASE PROTEST

Dozens of people participated in a car caravan Monday to demand the release of Cook County detainees.

Driving through the Loop, honking their horns the protestors demanded  the release of Gerald Reed and other prisoners.

Reed said he was tortured into falsely confessing to a double murder in 1990 under former Chicago police commander Jon Burge.

A judge overturned Reed’s conviction last year and granted him a new trial.

But that decision was later overturned.

Dozens of people drove past the Thompson Center Monday to demand Reed be released from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Protestors said COVID-19 is a death sentence for some prisoners. They are calling for Pritzker to provide testing behind bars and release incarcerated people who may be old or sick.
